How to Feel Confident in Corporate Headshots

A calm and supportive guide to your photoshoot

Many people feel nervous before a staff photoshoot, and that's completely normal. It's natural to wonder how you'll look in the photos, what kind of expression you should have, or whether you'll feel comfortable in front of the camera. Everyone wants images that feel good and genuinely reflect who they are.

It's also important to remember that every photographer works a little differently. This post explains how I work and what I recommend when I'm the photographer. These are not universal rules, but simply my personal approach.

My goal is always the same: to make the experience calm, easy, and to create photos that feel natural, professional, and truly you. 🀍

Read the photographer's instructions carefully

Before the shoot, I always send clear instructions that include the location, schedule, and clothing recommendations. Taking a moment to read these through calmly helps the day run smoothly.

If anything is unclear, you're always welcome to ask. The instructions will also mention if your workplace has any specific wishes, such as company-branded clothing or a particular overall style.

Good preparation helps both you and the photographer feel more relaxed.

Share your wishes and concerns in advance

You're very welcome to tell the photographer beforehand if something about the shoot makes you nervous, if there are features you'd prefer not to emphasize, or if you have specific wishes regarding the style or mood of the images.

These are not demands, but helpful information that allows me to do my job better. The earlier I know about your preferences, the easier it is to take them into account. If something only comes to mind during the shoot itself, that's completely fine too. Sharing things in advance simply makes planning easier.

During the shoot – trust the guidance

You don't need to know how to pose or have a practiced smile ready. In fact, I don't recommend practicing poses beforehand, as they often appear stiff or unnatural in photos.

During the session, I guide your posture, demonstrate when helpful, and assist with expressions and small adjustments. I'll show you images on the camera during the shoot, and you can say right away if something doesn't feel like you. The best results come from open communication and collaboration.

Small details – feel free to mention them

If you're concerned about a pimple, skin redness, dark circles, or any other small detail, it is safe to say so. These things are completely normal and can often be addressed already during the shoot, safely.

If needed, they can also be gently refined in post-processing. The aim is never to change how you look, but to make sure the final images feel comfortable and flattering to you.

In summary – calm confidence makes the difference

A staff photoshoot doesn't have to be stressful. You're not on your own, and the photographer will guide you throughout the process. When you can relax and trust what's happening, the result is images where you look professional, recognize yourself, and feel confident using the photos in your work.

Easy, calm, and human – that's where great portraits begin.
